Peer Review

Peer Reviewing with the CTL

The peer review process at The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Sinclair Community College serves as a collaborative and developmental approach to enhancing instructional effectiveness. Through this process, faculty members engage in reciprocal classroom observations, sharing constructive feedback focused on teaching strategies, student engagement, and course design. The goal is not evaluation, but professional growth—fostering a culture of reflection, innovation, and continuous improvement. Reviews are guided by clear criteria aligned with the college’s teaching and learning mission, ensuring that feedback is supportive, evidence-based, and aimed at improving student learning outcomes. By participating, faculty strengthen collegial relationships and contribute to a campus-wide commitment to teaching excellence.

List of CTL Approved Peer Reviewers

  1. To participate in the peer review process, faculty members should contact the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to express interest or respond to a campus-wide call for participants. The CTL then pairs the faculty member with a trained peer reviewer—often from a related discipline—to ensure a balanced and relevant perspective.
  2. The CTL will help coordinate the scheduling of the peer review in conjunction with the faculty member and the peer reviewer.
  3. The reviewer then conducts a classroom observation, focusing on aspects such as instructional clarity, student engagement, and alignment with learning outcomes.
  4. Afterward, the pair meets for a post-observation conversation, where the reviewer provides constructive, evidence-based feedback and engages in reflective dialogue about teaching practices. Faculty may also submit self-reflections or teaching artifacts (such as syllabi, assignments, or assessments) to enrich the discussion
