January 15, 2026 – The Canvas Glow Up Continues: Campus Training, Open Labs, and March 6 Deadline

Sinclair colleagues,

Sinclair’s LMS Migration — our eLearn Glow Up — has a major milestone to celebrate. This past Monday, 43 courses officially began piloting Canvas. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our eLearning staff, pilot faculty, and their academic leadership for stepping into this work early and enthusiastically, experimenting with a new system, and learning alongside us. Their experiences are already providing valuable insights that will help inform and strengthen the broader campus transition.

Throughout spring term, the eLearning Division will be focused on supporting pilot courses in Canvas, continuing campus-wide training and engagement opportunities, and most critically, partnering with course coordinators to prepare nearly 300 courses to go live in Canvas over summer term.

In addition to the pilot launch, we have several exciting updates to share:

  • Canvas Training on February 4 and 5 is open for registration via the CTL Events page. There are 8 distinct sessions available for registration. Please register individually for each session, paying attention to whether you are selecting virtual or in-person attendance.
  • Campus-wide access to Canvas will be available on January 26, so that everyone registered to participate in Canvas Training will have a Canvas Sandbox shell to play/test.
  • Congratulations to the LCS Division, who is leading the way with their D2L Course Prep efforts, with nearly 10% of their summer and fall courses prepped and ready to migrate.

What we need NOW, with only 7 weeks to the March 6 deadline for fully prepped D2L courses:

  • Review the updated section on the Canvas webpage titled “What Steps are Required to Migrate” to understand your role and responsibilities in the migration process.
  • If you’re a Course Coordinator for a course in any modality, attend a January Open Lab and complete the D2L Course Prep Guide to be entered into a raffle for a Sinclair-Canvas T-shirt.
  • Register for Canvas Training on February 4 and 5. Lunch will be provided for in-person participants.
  • Any course that has not been prepped by the Course Coordinator and entered on the Migration Tracker by March 6, 2026 will not go live as scheduled. Don’t let your course migration experience be the nightmare shown in this video!

Stay Connected by visiting www.sinclair.edu/canvas, sharing your questions using our Canvas Questions survey, or attending the next LMS Migration Checkpoint Chat on Wednesday, February 11, from Noon – 12:30 PM in the Innovation Lab (4-341) or via Zoom.

Thank you for your partnership and engagement as we work to re-invigorate the teaching and learning experience at Sinclair. Together, we are making eLearn shine brighter!

Sincerely,

The eLearning Migration Team
