Aerial Sensing Data Analytics UASDTA.S.STC

Short-term Technical Certificate - 18 Credit Hours

Division: Science, Mathematics and Engineering
Department: Aviation Technology
Effective as of Fall 2018

What is the program about?

The Aerial Sensing Data Analytics Short-Term Technical Certificate provides an introduction to unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technologies, applications, and regulatory and legal considerations. The program prepares students for entry level positions as analysts of aerially collected electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR), multi- and hyperspectral (MSI/HSI), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), light detection and ranging (LiDAR), acoustic, and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) data.

Program Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws governing unmanned aerial systems applications and operations in the national airspace system.
  • Determine the appropriate application of unmanned aerial systems and related technologies to various civil and commercial tasks.
  • Demonstrate an ability to process, interpret, present, and make decisions based on a variety of aerially collected data types including electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR), multi- and hyperspectral (MSI/HSI), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), light detection and ranging (LiDAR), acoustic, and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE).

Career Opportunities

The Aerial Sensing Data Analytics Short-Term Technical Certificate will produce graduates who will serve the immediate Dayton area, broader region, and nationally. Graduates of certificate program will contribute to filling the current and growing need for data analysts that can process, interpret, present, and make decisions based on a variety of unmanned and manned aircraft collected data types. Positions exist in start-ups and existing established firms, with growth expected for the foreseeable future. The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International estimates that there will be 100,000 new jobs related to unmanned aerial systems created by 2025.

Transferability

Currently, there are no transfer or articulation agreements from any Sinclair unmanned aerial systems (UAS) certificate or degree to a bachelor degree program. However, the certificate will integrate with the potential Bachelor of Applied Science degree in UAS if Sinclair is approved to offer the program.

Prerequisites

  • Competency-based education (CBE) prerequisite training and approval to register for courses will be required in the certificate when offered in the CBE (Flex) format.

Credentials

Students will be prepared to pursue the Pix4D Certification (data analysis software: https://pix4d.com/training-certification/pix4d-user-certification/) and the Analytical Graphics, Inc. Systems Tool Kit Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications (4D modeling, simulation, and analysis software: https://www.agi.com/training).
