What is the program about?

This program provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in the emerging fields of sustainability and energy management, with an emphasis on performance of energy audits and improving building energy efficiency. Upon completing this program, students will have the ability to perform energy audits, assess energy efficiency and control strategies for energy-consuming equipment, and prepare sustainability and energy management plans for various built environment applications.

Program Outcomes

  • Apply fundamental principles to evaluation of built environment sustainability energy systems.
  • Perform an energy audit & prepare a complete report with recommendations for savings opportunities by using knowledge of building envelope, building mechanical, and building electrical systems.
  • Develop sustainability or energy management plans by applying a global perspective on climate change and energy issues.
  • Assess a site for the use of renewable energy technologies & prepare a proposal for installation, taking into account applicable codes and standards, utility rate structures, economics, and safety.

Career Opportunities

Students can find employment assessing various aspects of building performance, and planning for sustainable design and operation of facilities.

Transferability

Two new courses are being added specifically to facilitate transfer to the University of Dayton sustainability bachelor degrees.
