March 16, 2026 – Canvas Migration: What to Expect Next
Greetings colleagues,
The time has come. Over the next two weeks, we will be migrating all courses marked Prepared on the Migration Tracker, along with all spring teaching shells. Once this happens, you may be wondering: What happens next?
Here is a quick overview of what to expect from the eLearning Division between now and early April.
Week of March 16
- All courses that are migrated and will go live during the Summer semester will become available in Canvas.
Week of March 22
eLearning courses
- The eLearning team will begin cleaning up more than 500 eLearning courses to prepare them for Summer go-live.
- When your assigned eLearning staff member begins working on your course, you will receive an email with next steps.
- Until then, you can check the status of your course in columns L and M of the Migration Tracker.
Thank you for your patience. Each eLearning team member is preparing between 5 and 15 courses to turn over to course coordinators by May 11.
Face-to-face courses
- You will receive an email with instructions for how to apply the eLearn Standard Template to your course.
- Need help? Join our Course Set-Up Labs starting in April.
Week of April 6
- Canvas Learning Labs will begin and will be available through the CTL Events page.
- All staff and faculty are invited to attend sessions to prepare for Summer go-live.
- Sessions include:
- Intro to Canvas demos
- Course Set-Up Labs
- Blueprinting 101, 201, and 301 trainings
- Teaching in Canvas demos
- Specific content groups — eLearn, CCP/Tech Prep, face-to-face, community/training owners, and staff groups — will have recommended sessions outlined on the CTL website. Faculty and staff in these groups should plan to attend sessions in April and May to prepare for Summer term in Canvas.
Later
- All Fall courses will be migrated to Canvas.
- We will repeat the same preparation process outlined above.
Have a question we have not answered yet? Reply to this email or share it using our one-question survey so we can address it during the April 10 Migration Checkpoint Chat.
Sincerely,
The eLearning Migration Team
