Successful Terms

Dropping Classes

Below are the estimated consequences of dropping classes using the benefits below. MFEC always recommends calling the office or specific benefit program to be sure of any financial penalty before making an official decision.

VA Education Benefits

Any Tuition and Fees paid by the VA returned to VA from Sinclair Community College.

Any stipend (books, housing, etc) will be returned to the VA on behalf of the student. 

Any Tuition and Fees paid by the VA must be paid back to the VA through their debt process.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Any tuition paid by the TA program will be returned from Sinclair Community College. Students will be required to pay their Military Branch the amount of tuition assistance paid on their behalf for class(es) withdrawn from.  Please contact your Military Tuition Assistance program for information on how withdrawn classes will impact your status in the program.
Ohio National Guard 
Scholarship (ONGSP)
Any Tuition and Fees paid by the ONGSP will be returned from Sinclair Community College. ONGSP pays Tuition and Fees to Sinclair and ONGSP students lose units. (Contact ONGSP to confirm).
MyCAA Any funds paid by MyCAA will be returned from Sinclair Community College. You may be responsible for any debts created by withdrawing from class(es)

Ohio War 
Orphans Scholarship (WOS)
Any funds paid by WOS will be returned from Sinclair Community College.  

 

Failing Classes

Below are the estimated consequences of receiving a failing grade for classes using the benefits below. MFEC always recommends calling the office or specific benefit program to be sure of any financial penalty before making an official decision. Any extenuating circumstances should be reported to the MFEC and Funding provider.

VA Education Benefits

Earned F Grade:  For students that attend the entire class (including taking the Final) are not penalized but do lose those months of benefits.
CH 31 students:  CH 31 will pay for a class twice. To take it a third time, the student must speak to their VR&E Counselor.

Unearned F Grade:  For students that stop attending at any point in the class, MFEC will report the Last Day of Attendance that the instructor reports to the VA.  Any tuition and fees paid by the MFEC must be paid back to the VA through their debt process.

Z (Non-Attendance Grades) For students who do not attend classes (as defined by the 
instructor) and do not drop, will be reported to the VA with the first date of the term as the Last Day of Attendance. Any tuition and fees paid by the VA must be paid back to the VA through their debt process 

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Students that do not earn a “C” or higher in a course paid for by TA will be required to pay their Military Branch the amount funding paid for that class. 
 Any extenuating circumstances should be reported to the MFEC and TA provider.
Ohio National Guard 
Scholarship (ONGSP)

MyCAA Failing classes COULD require you to pay back tuition covered by MyCAA.  Visit the MyCAA website and speak with your MyCAA Career Coach about how this will impact your status in the program.

Last Term Using Benefits

Please contact the MFEC office in the term that you are planning to stop using benefits. Our office will talk about next steps and ensure you don’t have any other benefits or paperwork that can be used during the rest of your educational journey.

Veterans Lounge

As a thank you for your service; we would like to welcome you to utilize the Veterans Services Lounge. The lounge is intended to serve as a resource space for veteran and service members to use, while working toward your education goals.

Requirements to use the Veterans Lounge
  • Must be veteran or service member of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Currently enrolled in classes at Sinclair College
  • Good Academic standing
