What is the program about?

This short term certificate offers knowledge and basic skills to work in the electronics/programming industry as an entry-level support technician for Internet of Things (IoT). In addition to advanced manufacturing, a growing portion of IoT devices are created for consumer use, including connected vehicles, home automation, wearable technology, connected health, and appliances with remote monitoring capabilities. Micro-controllers are the heart of any IoT device. Graduates learn micro-controller hardware, programming applications, networking, and security. Theoretical aspects are supported and supplemented by hands-on lab work to gain in-depth knowledge and necessary technical skills.

Program Outcomes

  • Demnstrate understanding of intermediate network security and demonstrate how security works in control networks, data networks, wireless and the Internet.
  • Edit, modify, develop, and troubleshoot micro-controller programming for IoT devices.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the hardware, operating system software and protocols that enable modern networks. Demonstrate how communications works in control networks, data networks, wireless and the Internet.

Career Opportunities

This certificate program will provide the entry level education and training necessary to operate, program, diagnose, and repair micro-controller based Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Graduates will be qualified to work for original equipment/system suppliers, consultants/third party support, as well as, equipment/system end users. This certificate is not only for individuals that are new to the field of IoT, but to those individuals that are already working in the field, and want to update their skill set. All courses within the certificate may be applied towards an Associate in Applied Science degree in Internet of Things Cyber Technician, a high demand, high paying field.
