What is the program about?

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice prepares entry-level professionals from diverse backgrounds in theoretical foundations, knowledge, skills, and practices of criminal justice operations. This study enables students to develop rational decisions and informed responses to challenges facing law enforcement and criminal justice professionals today. This degree program contains one or more embedded certificates which will be automatically awarded when the certificate requirements are completed. Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrates the ability to transfer pedagogical classroom experience into the world of work and the continuation of life-long learning practices.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills; communicates effectively with all constituents of the Criminal Justice System who are involved in the criminal justice process, and incorporates the standard communication model (sending, receiving, analyzing, and responding).
  • Demonstrates a proficient use of technology and information literacy fundamentals by applying comprehensive knowledge specific to the Criminal Justice profession and the processes involved in responding appropriately to assorted scenarios, writings, projects, and assessments.
  • Demonstrates a sense of values, citizenship, and community toward oneself and others by working effectively, independently, and collaboratively with diverse populations in adverse conditions.
  • Utilizes creative and critical thinking skills by addressing Criminal Justice Science issues / problems by using acceptable problem-solving strategies and techniques, research, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluation /assessment, and adaptation.
  • Exemplify high standards of Criminal Justice Science professionalism, employment qualifications, stewardship of resources, and time management.

Career Opportunities

A broad range of career opportunities are available in the area of criminal justice / law enforcement including those in court systems, court administration, patrol, victim services, investigation, and probation / parole.


Formal articulation agreements with other colleges and universities indicate how Sinclair programs and courses will transfer to other institutions. There are current agreements with Wright State, Miami University, and Ohio University.


Prepares students to apply for Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.
