Students with one of the following industry-recognized credentials are eligible for credit toward the Business Technology degree.

 

·         Business Administration Technology

o   Must have successfully currently holds ONE of the following credentials:

§  successfully complete competencies in either Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) OR

§  successfully complete competencies in the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)

o   And successfully completed the following 30 OPAC tests:

·         Medical Office Specialist

o   Must hold ONE of the following credentials:

§  NCCT – National Certified Medical Office Assistant (CMOA)

§  NHA - Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)

o   And currently holds the following credential:

§  NHA - Certified Electronic Health Records (CEHRS)

o   And must hold ONE of the following credentials:

§  Microsoft Office Specialist (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

§  IC3 (PC Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online)

o   And must hold credentials to concentrate in either Medical Office Coding or Administrative Office. A student must hold ONE of the following certifications:

§  AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC®)

§  AAPC Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P®)

§  AAPC Certified Outpatient Coding (COC™)

§  AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC™)

§  AAPC Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC™)

§  AHIMA Certified Coding Associate (CCA®)

§  AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS®)

§  AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P®)

§  NCCT National Certified Insurance & Coding Specialist (NCICS)

§  NHA Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS)


*Note: All certifications must be current and have been taken in the past 3 years.


To begin the process, interested students must:

1.       Be a current Sinclair student or apply online www.sinclair.edu/apply

a.       Choose: To obtain an Associate Degree for the Job Market to declare the major

b.       Meet with an Academic Advisor to create an Academic Plan and discuss course options

2.       Submit an articulated credit request (look under PLA Policies) via the PLA website  www.sinclair.edu/pla

a.       Upload a PDF(s) of valid (active) credential/licensure

b.       Note: if earned via a Career Technical program, include the Completion Certificate or Secondary One-Year Option Completion Form



 

What is the program about?

This degree requires the student to hold an industry-recognized credential approved by the Chancellor of the State of Ohio.
