Sinclair College's IT and Computer Science Programs Rank 6th Best in Ohio

Dayton, OH –The results of a recent study published by ComputerTrainingSchools.com ranked Sinclair’s Computer Science and IT programs 6th best in Ohio. The study includes universities and community colleges in Ohio and is based on data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics and College Scorecard tool.

Ranking variables included the following:

  • Graduation rate
  • Retention rate
  • Average in-state undergraduate tuition
  • Percent of undergraduate students awarded federal, state, local, institutional or other sources of grant aid
  • Related subjects, based on the number of relevant programs that are offered at any level
  • Flexibility, based on the number of relevant programs that are offered at any level via distance education

Sinclair is one of only three community colleges in Ohio that have earned the Center for Academic Excellence designation. This institutional award is established by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with the support of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and CyberWatch.

Sinclair’s Computer Information Systems department offers twenty-three different certificate and degree programs. The department has a robust IT and facilities infrastructure and academic labs that provide students with state-of-the-art hardware and software.

Sinclair has extensive experience with innovative IT curriculum development, including being one of only six colleges in the nation to have its competency-based education fully-accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. There are currently over 60 courses offered in the competency-based modality across the College, helping students who need flex-paced schedules to earn degrees.

The college also recently launched a new Associate of Science degree in Computer Science. The program was developed after feedback from potential employers and a thorough review of the regional labor market.  

Sinclair is recognized as a local and national leader in delivering high quality and affordable higher education. One of the oldest and best-known community colleges in the nation, Sinclair was founded in 1887 by David A. Sinclair and is a board member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College. Sinclair offers more than 260 accredited degrees and certificates.
