NSG 1305 Pharmacology for Licensed Practical Nursing III

This course focuses on advanced and specialty pharmacologic concepts to prepare students for transition to practice. Emphasis is placed on mental health medications, intravenous therapy concepts as permitted within the practical nursing scope of practice, emergency medications, adverse drug reactions, and clinical judgment in medication management. Students integrate pharmacologic knowledge with prioritization, delegation, and communication skills while participating in NCLEX-PN focused medication review. Content aligns with concurrent nursing theory, lab, and clinical experiences to support safe, effective medication administration across diverse healthcare settings.

  • Recognize and respond to adverse drug reactions, toxicity, and medication emergencies by initiating appropriate nursing actions and reporting findings promptly as evaluated through emergency simulation scenarios and structured debriefing.
  • Apply pharmacologic principles to mental health and specialty medications while supporting therapeutic communication as evaluated through focused case studies and written examinations.
  • Prioritize and organize medication administration for multiple patients under supervision using sound clinical judgment and time-management strategies as evaluated through multi-patient simulation scenarios.
  • Demonstrate readiness for entry-level practice by applying pharmacology knowledge to NCLEX-PN-style clinical judgment scenarios as evaluated through a comprehensive pharmacology examination.
