Outcomes

  • Develop self-awareness though examination of biases, values, and beliefs. Identify potential ethical concerns regarding competence and boundary violations, as well as dual and multiple relationships during and after the counseling relationship.
  • Identify components of confidentiality including informed consent, exceptions to confidentiality, "Duty to Warn" and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Identify components of various ethical codes including locating one's own code of ethics.
  • Develop a personal code of professional behavior including awareness of the ethical codes and scope of competency for chosen profession. Use the model of ethical decision making identified in the course.
