IND 2140 Interior Building Systems and Design
The course introduces the building systems that affect the interior environment, Students learn about HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting applications, and siting and external shading strategies and how these areas affect the interior environment. Building codes and structural systems are introduced. Emphasis is placed on efficiency and cost savings, including commonly accepted sustainable practices. Two classroom, four lab hours per week.

- Describe lighting design techniques, vocabulary, selection, application, and quality in residential and non-residential interiors.
- Describe the elements that affect human thermal comfort in an interior environment.
- Describe the four parts of interior plumbing.
- Find regulations in the building code based on occupancy type and other factors.
- Describe various strategies for saving on building costs.
- Identify the areas of an interior that are reviewed for LEED certification.
