Students will explore information that relates to positive interactions that support optimal growth and development of young children. Laboratory experience with an emphasis on identification of developmentally appropriate interactions and experiences that support intentional teaching. Once a week seminar required. Additionally, students will spend 1.5 hours per week in the Sinclair Community College daycare center.

Coordinated practicum experience in an assigned program of early education and care. Weekly seminar. Written application required one semester in advance. Two classroom, twenty-one practicum hours per week.

This course engages participants in exploration and discussion about high-quality care giving and developmentally appropriate practices when engaging with infants and toddlers and their families. The importance of quality environments that support development, language and literacy, family engagement, advocacy, positive guidance, and professionalism are discussed as they relate to required standards and the care of infants and toddlers.
