Basic fundamentals and theory of classical ballet for beginning students. Class work consists of barre work, center combinations and steps. Two classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an ability to perform ballet techniques with a sense of dynamics, musicality and artistry.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain proper body alignment appropriate to ballet, while performing simple and complex movement sequences.
  • Perform positions using principles governing classical ballet such as stance, alignment, turn out, balance, weight transfer, weight distribution, and coordination.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the ballet terminology as defined by course content.
