CAT 1852 NCCER Carpentry Advanced Level 4B
This course includes advanced carpentry skills involved in stair systems, construction equipment, site preparation, and fundamentals of crew leadership. It also includes the introduction to oxyfuel cutting and arc welding. The course uses NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) core curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- Utilize NCCER core curriculum.
- Demonstrate advanced stair system techniques. Provides an extensive coverage of the materials and techniques used in finishing wooden staircases. Also covers stair systems used in commercial construction.
- Understand various construction equipment used in advanced carpentry. Includes a general overview of safety, operation, and maintenance.
- Understand and demonstrate the use of equipment, procedures, and safety practices used in cutting steel. Labs include practice in cutting and welding.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the planning process that precedes the start of work on a construction site. This includes environmental considerations, personnel issues, access roads, traffic control, permits, safety, etc.
- Utilize basic leadership skills and explain different leadership styles, communication, delegating, and problem solving. Includes safety, project planning, scheduling, and estimating.
