CAT 1842 NCCER Carpentry Forms Level 3B

Orientation to the properties of foundations and slabs-on grade, vertical formwork, horizontal formwork, handling and placing concrete, and tilt-up wall systems using NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Utilize NCCER core curriculum.
  • Demonstrate basic site layout safety, tools, and methods; layout and construction of deep and shallow foundations; types of foundation forms; layout of formation of slabs-on-grade; and forms used for curbing and paving.
  • Demonstrate application and construction methods for types of forming and form hardware systems for walls, columns, and stairs. Also includes overview of the assembly, erection, and stripping of gang forms.
  • Describe elevated decks and formwork systems. Covers joist, pan, beam and slab, flat slab. Also covers shoring and reshoring systems.
  • Demonstrate handling and placing concrete, Covers tools, equipment, and procedures for safely handling, placing, and finishing concrete.
  • Describe how tilt-up concrete construction is used and how tilt-up panels are formed, erected, and braced. Covers installation of rebar and embedments. Also covers used to create architectural and decorative treatments.
