CAT 1832 NCCER Carpentry Framing & Finishing Level 2B

Orientation to the carpentry framing and finishing trade. Introduction to thermal and moisture protection, roofing applications, doors and door hardware, suspended ceilings, window, door, floor and ceiling trim, and cabinet installation utilizing NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) core curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Students will utilize NCCER core curriculum.
  • Covers the selection and installation of various types of insulating materials and the uses and installation practices for vapor barriers.
  • Describe how to properly prepare the roof deck and install roofing for residential and commercial buildings.
  • Describe the installation of metal doors and related hardware in steel-framed, wood-framed, and masonry walls, along with their related hardware. Also discusses installation of wood doors, folding doors, and pocket doors.
  • Describe the materials, layout, and installation procedures for many types of suspended ceilings used in commercial construction.
  • Describe different types of trim used in finish work and focuses on the proper materials to achieve a professional finished appearance.
  • Provide detailed instructions for the selection and installation of base and wall cabinets and countertops.
