CAT 1610 Structural Framing
An in-depth lecture series on platform framing combined with a series of lab exercises. The course will cover the following: wall spacing systems, load distribution, and openings; building the platform and connecting it to the foundation; laying out the wall locations on the platform; marking up the plates and making a cut list; cutting and scattering the wall pieces; assembling the walls and lifting them into place; connecting the walls and plumbing and leveling the plates; capping off and attaching the walls to the platform; and backing, blocking, and accepted modifications. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- Demonstrate basic framing techniques and structural types and identify appropriate framing methods for various construction scenarios
- Lay out and assemble joist boxes accurately as well as attach decking and subflooring in accordance with standard practices
- Lay out wall locations and components using proper measurement techniques and assemble wall systems efficiently while maintaining structural accuracy
- Recognize the importance of following building codes and industry standards as well as apply proper construction sequencing to ensure safe and compliant structures
- Demonstrate efficient building practices without compromising quality and maintain attention to detail to ensure durability and accuracy in construction
