BIO 2700 Biology Internship

Provides students with the opportunity to gain professional knowledge and skills from a planned work-based learning experience in a biology-related professional setting. In consultation with the employer and faculty, students establish learning outcomes related to their program of study and prepare documents detailing how the experience led to the application of knowledge and skills from their major. Students already working in a relevant field may apply to count that experience toward internship requirements. Seven work hours per credit hour per week.

Outcomes

  • Apply biological concepts, laboratory techniques, field methods, and/or scientific practices learned in coursework to tasks completed in an approved internship environment.
  • Demonstrate communication, teamwork, professionalism, ethical conduct, reliability, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills in a supervised workplace environment.
  • Create a final report summarizing biology-related activities, projects and experiences as their final assessment. Throughout the semester, reflect on internship experiences to assess career interests, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and connect academic preparation to future educational and career goals.
