October 2025 – Countdown to Canvas: 18 Weeks to Glow Up

OCT 2025

Countdown to Canvas – 18 Weeks to Glow Up!

The migration to Canvas is underway, and preparation is already in motion across campus.

Completing the D2L Course Prep Guide is integral to confirming a course's readiness to migrate to Canvas. If you are a Course Coordinator and haven’t started yet, now is the time to:

  • Prepare your master or dev shell for a smooth migration to Canvas by completing the D2L Course Prep Guide and attending an Open Lab: Prepping for Canvas.
  • Record the name and URL of your selected master or dev shell and prepare to enter it on the Migration Tracker by December 15 for pilot courses, and by March 6 for all other courses. The earlier a course appears on the tracker—with a completed D2L Course Prep Guide—the earlier it will be prioritized.
  • Request any training/community shells, additional master, or teaching shells for migration using the Canvas Migration Special Request form.
  • Request archival of any teaching shells or other materials that need to be retained for longer than three years using the Canvas Migration Special Request form.
  • Submit your Canvas Custom Workflow Request as needed.

This newsletter will keep you informed each month with project updates, key milestones, action reminders, and system news from D2L.

Student Communication Campaign Launched!
The student-facing side of our Glow Up launched October 14. Students are now seeing early messages that eLearn is getting a fresh look with Canvas, with more communication rolling out on campus in the coming weeks.

New in eLearn: Student Success Toolkit

The Sinclair Promise 2030 initiative has launched the Student Success Toolkit: Academic & Social Skills, a ready-to-use resource you can add directly to your course in eLearn.

It includes short videos, practical strategies, and a feedback feature to help students build confidence and success habits—supporting Sinclair Promise 2030’s goals of becoming a student-ready institution and improving student persistence.

Panopto Update: Require Full Video Viewing

Panopto now offers a Viewer Completion Affirmation setting that requires students to watch your entire video before receiving credit. When enabled, students must view the full recording and check a confirmation box at the end. Viewership can be tracked in your gradebook using a SCORM package.
