August 15, 2025 – eLearn is Getting a Glow Up: Canvas is Coming

Dear Colleagues,

You may have heard: eLearn is getting a glow up! Sinclair has selected Canvas by Instructure as our next Learning Management System, and the migration efforts have officially begun.

This decision follows a thorough evaluation process that engaged faculty, staff, and students across the college. While it will still be eLearn at its core, Canvas brings modern design, more intuitive navigation, and powerful new features to support excellence in teaching, learning, and student success. To learn more about our decision to migrate to Canvas, you can review this previously shared short video.

Here’s what to know:

  • Timeline: We will continue to have access to D2L’s Brightspace through July 1, 2026, giving us ample time for a smooth and supported transition to Canvas. Starting Summer 2026, all courses will be taught in Canvas, giving faculty and students a fresh start in our new learning environment.
  • Support: Sinclair will participate in a Canvas-assisted migration, offering robust tools, training, and resources for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Planning in Motion: A Migration Steering Committee and seven subcommittees focused on technical setup, logistics, communication, design templates, tool exploration, and student and faculty support are already in place and actively guiding the transition.
  • Learn More: A brief update on the LMS Migration Project will be shared at Faculty Assembly on August 20, along with ways to get involved.

Please watch for additional communication from eLearning with opportunities to stay informed, next steps, and future training opportunities. We will address migration questions at our first LMS Checkpoint Chat on September 4 in the Innovation Lab (4-341) — this will be a hybrid event with a Zoom link being shared soon.
