Ohio Work Ready Grant

The Ohio Work Ready Grant (OWRG) helps eligible Ohio residents pay for college while preparing for high-demand careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering technology.

 

Eligible Sinclair students may receive up to $6,000 per academic year to help cover tuition and other educational expenses while earning a qualifying credential.

Who is Eligible?

You may qualify if you: 

  • Are an Ohio resident
  • Are enrolled in an eligible Sinclair program
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Unlike some financial aid programs, eligible students in technician-aligned programs do not have to demonstrate financial need to receive an Ohio Work Ready Grant.

How to Apply

Step 1: Apply to Sinclair
Complete the Sinclair admission application and select an eligible Ohio Work Ready Grant program.

Step 2: Complete the FAFSA
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to include Sinclair Community College using school code 003119.

Step 3: Meet with an Academic Advisor
Your advisor will help you build an academic plan and register for the courses needed to complete your program.
Step 4: Register for Classes
Once you're admitted, have completed your FAFSA, and met with your advisor, register for your classes.

How Much Can I Receive?

Your award depends on your enrollment level:

Full-time (12+ credit hours) Up to $6,000
Three-quarter time (9-11 credit hours) Up to $4,500
Half-time (6-8 credit hours) Up to $3,000
Quarter-time (1-5 credit hours) Up to $1,500
Eligible short-term certificate programs Up to $3,000 per program*
*Students completing multiple eligible short-term certificates or industry-recognized credential programs may receive up to $4,000 during an academic year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to demonstrate financial need? No. Students enrolled in eligible technician-aligned programs must complete the FAFSA, but they do not have to be Pell Grant eligible to receive Ohio Work Ready Grant funding.
What is considered full-time?
  • For Ohio Work Ready Grant purposes:
  • Full-time: 12 or more credit hours each term (or 30 credit hours during the academic year)
  • Three-quarter time: 9-11 credit hours
  • Half-time: 6-8 credit hours
  • Quarter-time: 1-5 credit hours
Can I receive the grant for a short-term certificate? Yes. Eligible students enrolled in approved short-term certificate or industry-recognized credential programs may receive up to $3,000 per program, subject to annual program limits.
