Can you tell us a little about yourself?I'm Naila Rais, an Indian girl and international student coming from a diverse country. I’m currently continuing my academic journey at Lone Star College–Tomball as an Honors Undergraduate Research Student, working toward an Honors Degree in Data Analytics with a concentration in International Studies. I attended Sinclair Community College in 2024 as a proud associate in applied sciences in Data Analytics student, where I built the foundation of who I am today—both technically and personally. I was awarded a Non-Montgomery High School Merit Scholarship of $2,000 per term, despite attending online live classes, which was unique and thrilling.
I'm a data storyteller, a certified associate data analyst by DataCamp, an AI enthusiast, and a passionate advocate for inclusive technology. I am a leader at the Microsoft User Group: Uttar Pradesh Power BI Club, and I mentor women in technology on multiple platforms. Currently, I’m involved in several global tech initiatives. I'm also collaborating with Women in AI, TELUS International, Sustainable Living Guide, Women in Tech Network, Technovation Girls, and other organizations where I contribute. Sinclair wasn’t just a college—it was the spark that ignited a lifelong mission.
I’ve always believed that technology should be more than just intelligent—it should be compassionate. That belief became a purpose when I realized how data and AI could solve real problems for real people, especially in underserved communities. As a girl, I was inspired by Sinclair’s Program for Women in Data, and especially by Professor Paul Hansford, for uplifting women, inviting them in, and helping them find their true potential. He was always sharing tech resources outside of class and offering multiple opportunities for personality development.
Among others, I owe thanks to Jackie Duffy, a staff member known for her motivation and smart work. She works hard to provide student internship opportunities.
Sinclair gave me the tools to bring my purpose to life. The coursework was rigorous yet practical, and the professors were mentors in every sense. But more than anything, Sinclair taught me how to learn, how to adapt, and how to lead with empathy—skills that still guide me every single day. A diverse community living under one roof with love made Sinclair an amazing choice.
Sinclair shaped me in ways that went far beyond GPA or coursework. In the classroom, I gained confidence using tools like Microsoft Office, Business Informatics, Network Administration, and Accounting. I was admitted to the Honors and Research Program at Lone Star College–Tomball.
Outside the classroom, I discovered the power of diverse communities and storytelling. Sinclair made space for me to grow not just as a student, but as a creator, a leader, and a dreamer. It was where I learned to balance analytics with advocacy, precision with passion. It was the launchpad where I turned ideas into action—and found my voice.
Sinclair changed me. It taught me to hustle for solutions, to do noble things for others, and to think creatively. I became someone who can quickly catch and understand new information. Creativity beats talent, and Sinclair shapes creative minds. I got the chance to be a lifelong member of the Phi Sigma Pi Society and joined other groups like NSPE and SME.
As a student, I measured success by milestones—grades, internships, checklists. Today, success is measured in meaning.
It's seeing a non-verbal child use a tool you helped build. It's mentoring someone who reminds you of yourself. It’s contributing to a more inclusive tech world.
Success is no longer a destination—it’s the difference you make while staying rooted in your values. It’s being in love with the process, not just the results. It’s giving the world something meaningful from your skillset.
Don’t just chase success—design it.
Take ownership of your journey. Build things that excite you, even if they scare you a little. Connect with people who challenge you. Explore without needing all the answers.
And most importantly—remember that your unique voice, background, and dreams are your superpowers. At Sinclair, you're not just learning—you’re laying the foundation for the future you want to create.
So go create it. Boldly. Bravely. Unapologetically.
