Colin Kimuli

Colin KimuliCan you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Colin Kimuli, I started at Sinclair Community College in 2023 and graduated in 2025 with my Associates of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I am currently working at Danis Construction Company as an MEP Coordinator Co-op and part-time as an independent sub-contractor in the underground cable construction field working for internet and cable tv companies such as Spectrum.

What inspired you to pursue your career path, and how did Sinclair help you get there?

Leaving the U.S as a child and growing up in Uganda, my parents worked so hard and gave up so much to raise me. So when I returned to the U.S alone at 18, It was hard to adjust and settle. I faced so many hurdles in my life then and each time I compare myself to who I was a few years ago when I had just came back, to who I am today it motivates me to keep challenging myself with doing the best I can, including choosing to pursue a career in engineering which Sinclair has so far helped me achieve by having flexible class schedules, scholarships and a robust curriculum for the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program.

How would you describe the impact Sinclair had on your life, both in and out of the classroom?

Sinclair provides students with the opportunity to achieve an all-around education through small classroom sizes and student community groups. During my time at Sinclair, I participated in and led multiple student organizations. This helped me grow not only in my personal life but also excel academically as it helped me form valuable relationships with staff, faculty and classmates.

How has your definition of success changed from when you were a Sinclair student to now?

When I was a freshman student at Sinclair my definition of success entailed that I had to achieve a huge and life-changing goal. Now, the time I spent at Sinclair for my associates degree taught me that success is more than just that. Success applies to each and every achievement of a set goal no matter how "small."

What is one piece of advice that you would give to current Sinclair students?

I advise current Sinclair students to build lasting relationships with the people around them at Sinclair by making valuable connections with their professors by going to office hours, utilizing student resources that are made available by the school and student community groups that are made available by the office of student and community engagement. Being an all-round student and building lasting relationships with the Sinclair community will propel you towards success.
