CJ Nesbit

CJ NesbitCan you tell us a little about yourself?

I started attending Sinclair through College Credit Plus classes in my freshman year of high school. I started in the Computer Science program, but by the time I finished high school, I had finished the Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science programs!

What inspired you to pursue your career path, and how did Sinclair help you get there?

I’ve always loved solving interesting, applicable, and challenging problems. Sinclair helped me achieve my current career path of becoming a Chemical Engineer by supplying me with a sturdy foundation in problem solving, time management, and resilience.

How would you describe the impact Sinclair had on your life, both in and out of the classroom?

In the classroom, Sinclair instilled great work ethic, communication, and teamwork skills that helped me academically thrive. Outside the classroom, these same skills have translated into professional success for landing current internships with University of Dayton Research Institute and Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

How has your definition of success changed from when you were a Sinclair student to now?

Before Sinclair, I had a very limited mindset of success. Success was worldly targets, and always performance-based where failure wasn’t an option. Sinclair showed me that success is rather a process of failing and continuous learning – and that we shouldn’t be afraid to do just that.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to current Sinclair students?

Use your resources: your classmates, professors, advisors, and mentors. They will help  you learn more and reach your goals faster than doing it alone. Finally, regarding goals: always aim high, even when you don’t believe in yourself. Even if you fail, your effort pays off from the lessons and journey alone.
