Poverty, by America by Matthew Desmond is a powerful, eye-opening look at how poverty persists in the U.S. not by accident, but through systems that benefit from its existence. It challenges readers to rethink assumptions and inspires meaningful discussion about how we can build a fairer, more just society.
This event is sponsored by the Sociology, Geography, and Social Work Department, in collaboration with the Carter Center and the Faculty Association for Experiential Learning.
All participants will receive a copy of the book - stop by Building 11, Room 322 to pick up your book.
Choose the preferred time and location when you register:
NOTE: On Friday, February 27, 2026, Think Tank Inc. will be on campus to facilitate a COPE (Cost of Poverty Experience) as a follow-on to the book read. The registration link for COPE will be available in mid-January.
