NIA is a Swahili word, which means "purpose." Awards will be presented in five distinct categories: student, faculty, staff, community member, and Diversity Champion who demonstrate leadership and good deeds with the "purpose" of uplifting African-American students on campus or citizens throughout the Miami Valley.
The evening will also serve as a celebration of Gospel Music and its rich heritage in the African-American community and the greater community at large. Featuring the Sinclair Contemporary Gopsel Ensemble, there will be song selections and African drumming as part of the ceremony.
