Health Information Management (HIM) professionals are experts in the field of managing and protecting patient health information, administering computer information systems, and coding the diagnoses and procedures for health care services provided to patients in accordance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the health care delivery system.
The programs offered in health information management are excellent choices for immediate post-high school education, re-entry into the workforce or even a mid-life career change alternative. Graduates of our programs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician offices, home health agencies, insurance companies, and even government agencies.
Our degree program is offered as a completely online program. Students may select their preferred format (in-class or online) for individual courses taken each term. With even more control and flexibility, you can choose how you earn your degree!

The Health Information Management Technician certificate prepares students to work in a medical office setting. This certificate will focus on preparing students for an entry-level office position in a medical facility where basic electronic health record technology, medical terminology, medicolegal principles and revenue-cycle principles are utilized. A grade of “C” or higher is required in all courses to receive the certificate.

National Exam Passage Rate
The passage rate of HIM graduates who took the RHIT exam for the first time during the 8/1/2021-7/31/2022 reporting period was 79.2%.
Employment and/or Pursuance of Continued Education
Over 87% of the 2022 graduates of the Health Information Management program gained employment in the healthcare field or pursued higher educational opportunities in healthcare.
Completion/Graduation Rates
For the period of 2021-2022 academic year, student completion of the Health Information Management program was 87.34%.
The HIM associate degree program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Graduates of the Sinclair program qualify for accreditation in the health information management field by passing the national certification examination requirements of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Upon successful completion of the examination, the graduate is awarded the credential of a registered health information technician (RHIT).
Accreditation Statement: The Health Information Management accreditor of Sinclair Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College's accreditation for associate degree in Health Information Management has been reaffirmed through 2027-2028.
