In its ongoing mission to ensure affordable education opportunities, Sinclair will launch the Sinclair Scholars program with the 2015 Fall Semester. Sinclair Scholars is the first tuition free program of its kind among community colleges in Ohio. The program is designed especially for recent high school graduates, and acceptance into the program is automatic for students who meet the eligibility requirements.
With approval from the Sinclair Board of Trustees on May 19, 2015, the college will invest $250,000 in the program over the next two years and expects to impact at least 550 Ohio high school graduates.
"The goal is to assist gifted, low-income 2015 Ohio high school graduates by reducing their overall cost of attending college," said Dr. Anthony Cruz, Sinclair's Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. "This program continues Sinclair's strong track record of accessible, high quality, and affordable higher education. We are pleased to be able to meet the needs of our students and community in this way."
Recent Ohio high school graduates who are interested in attending Sinclair and participating in this program need to complete the enrollment and financial aid (www.fafsa.gov) processes and select classes before August 10, 2015. Pell grant-eligible students will have the portion of tuition and fees that is not covered by the Pell Grant award or other scholarships paid by the Sinclair Scholars Program. These awards are determined after the financial aid process is completed. Students must also meet other eligibility requirements.
More information about Sinclair Scholars, including a step-by-step registration process, is available through www.sinclair.edu/scholarsprogram.
The Sinclair Board of Trustees also previously approved $1.8 million in institutional scholarships to assist students in paying Sinclair's tuition, which for Montgomery County students are the lowest tuition rates in the State of Ohio.
