Where do my family and guests sit during the ceremony?

Family and guests of graduating students will find ample seating at the University of Dayton Arena, as open seating is provided for guests. Tickets are not required.

Limited seating for guests with a disability is located on the entry level floor of the University of Dayton Arena. Only one additional person can be seated in this area to accompany the disabled guest. The first two rows of Section 112 are reserved for the hearing impaired. Sign language interpreters will be provided.

Where is the Commencement ceremony and where do I park?

The 2019 Commencement ceremony will be held at the University of Dayton Arena located at 1801 Edwin C. Moses Boulevard, Dayton, Ohio 45408.

Graduate and guest parking is available in lots A, B, C and D, and an officer will direct drivers to the appropriate lots. It is highly encouraged that guests and students arrive as early as possible to ensure optimal parking and seating.

There is road construction in the area. For traffic information, visit

What services are available for graduates and guests with hearing impairments or special needs?

Interpreting services will be available in Section 112 of the arena for students and guests with hearing impairments. Accessible seating accommodations are available at the mezzanine level above Sections 201, 203, 204, 209, 210, 212, 213, 215, 218, 219, 222, and 224. Should you or a guest have questions/concerns regarding accommodations related to a disability, please contact Cristy Vonderembse at 937-512-4736 or as early as possible so we can make the necessary accommodations.

How should I dress for the ceremony?

All graduates are required to wear their cap and gown at the ceremony. Tassels should be worn to the graduate’s right side. Participants are encouraged to exercise good judgment in selecting their wardrobe for the ceremony. Please keep in mind that the University of Dayton Arena is NOT equipped with air conditioning, so you will want to dress with appropriate clothing underneath your cap and gown. While the traditional ceremonial gown provides ample coverage, participants are asked to refrain from wearing shorts and/or sandals. Additionally, graduates will be walking up and down the Arena stairs and are encouraged to wear shoes that will ease this process. Shoes with tall heels, as well as sandals or flip flops are strongly discouraged.

How do I purchase a photograph from the ceremony?

A professional photographer will take your photograph once you have received your diploma cover and shaken hands with the college president and trustees. Within a week of the ceremony, you will be contacted via my.sinclair by Grad Images to purchase a professional photograph, should you have an interest in doing so.

Will I receive my diploma at the Commencement ceremony?

At Commencement you will receive the degree cover.  All degrees are mailed to students.  Fall graduates should already have received their degrees by mail, while spring and summer graduates will receive their degree by mail once all requirements are certified. Degrees are typically mailed out 4-6 weeks after the term has ended. Please check your my.sinclair e-mail to verify the correct mailing address. If there is an error, please contact Jenni Brannan at 937-512-2857.

What if I am an honor student?

The names of students graduating with honors will be so noted in the Commencement program and will have that distinction indicated at the time their name is announced. Honor cords, distributed with you cap and gown, will also designate you as an honor student during the ceremony.
