All graduates are required to wear their cap and gown at the ceremony. Tassels should be worn to the graduate’s right side. Participants are encouraged to exercise good judgment in selecting their wardrobe for the ceremony. Please keep in mind that the University of Dayton Arena is NOT equipped with air conditioning, so you will want to dress with appropriate clothing underneath your cap and gown. While the traditional ceremonial gown provides ample coverage, participants are asked to refrain from wearing shorts and/or sandals. Additionally, graduates will be walking up and down the Arena stairs and are encouraged to wear shoes that will ease this process. Shoes with tall heels, as well as sandals or flip flops are strongly discouraged.
A professional photographer will take your photograph once you have received your diploma cover and shaken hands with the college president and trustees. Within a week of the ceremony, you will be contacted via my.sinclair by Grad Images to purchase a professional photograph, should you have an interest in doing so.
At Commencement you will receive the degree cover. All degrees are mailed to students. Fall graduates should already have received their degrees by mail, while spring and summer graduates will receive their degree by mail once all requirements are certified. Degrees are typically mailed out 4-6 weeks after the term has ended. Please check your my.sinclair e-mail to verify the correct mailing address. If there is an error, please contact Jenni Brannan at 937-512-2857.
The names of students graduating with honors will be so noted in the Commencement program and will have that distinction indicated at the time their name is announced. Honor cords, distributed with you cap and gown, will also designate you as an honor student during the ceremony.
