Sociological explanation of the nature and scope of family violence: child abuse, spousal abuse, elder abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and emotional abuse. Analysis of social and legal implications; intervention and prevention will be explored.

  • Evaluate the societal reaction to family violence over time.
  • Assess the community resources available for the victims of family violence.
  • Differentiate between theoretical perspectives which explain this form of behavior.
  • Appraise case studies of family violence to rate constructive responses to this phenomenon.
