Sinclair Hosts 37th Annual Writers’ Workshop

DAYTON, OHIO (03/15/2011) – The English and theatre departments at Sinclair Community College will host the annual Sinclair Writers’ Workshop on April 9, 2011 to help emerging writers in the community gain exposure to a variety of writing styles and authors.

The 2011 Writers’ Workshop will feature playwright Walter Allen Bennett Jr. Bennett has written for The Cosby Show and directed and produced numerous television shows and movies. Bennett holds an MFA in playwriting from Yale University’s School of Drama and an MFA in Acting from UCLA.

Attendees will have a wider variety of sessions to choose from than ever. The Workshop is structured to meet all writers’ needs, from the struggling beginner looking for inspiration to the often- published who is looking for new venues.

Sessions will focus on fiction writing, online editing and publishing, screenwriting , and poetry. Sessions will be led by local writers and Sinclair professors, as well as Bennett, the keynote speaker, who hails from California.

"We have a long tradition and quite prestigious tradition of bringing in speakers for a lower price than other workshops. We also give attendees more face time with those speakers," Kristina Onder, the director of the Workshop, said.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to bring some of their work and present it to the other participants and speakers to get feedback at the end of the day.

The Workshop will be held on April 9, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Building 12 on Sinclair’s main campus in downtown Dayton.

Online registration is available through the English department website at http://www.sinclair.edu/academics/lcs/departments/eng/ws/regis/index.cfm. You can also sign up at the door. The cost is $25 but free for registered students at Sinclair.
