Sinclair Men's Basketball Bounces Back to Defeat Tiffin

The Sinclair Men’s Basketball team (15-3, 0-1) hoped to bounce back after an overtime road loss last Saturday in their first conference game this season. Sinclair dropped to 12th in the nation this week as this is their 6th consecutive week in the top 20. They hosted the Tiffin University JV team (1-1) on Wednesday in a brief one game break from conference play.

Sinclair took the initial lead and Tiffin soon answered making the score 3-2, Sinclair with the lead. Aaron Montgomery got a put back off a rebound and Deiontay Walters hit the jumper which gave Sinclair a 24-15 lead. Charles Sweatt-Washington got the dunk off an assist from Conner Myslowski. Conner Myslowski then knocked down a three with 3:30 to play putting Sinclair up 35-19. PJ Weaver got an alley-oop assist from Ramar Hairston to put Sinclair up by 20 (39-19) with 2:00 remaining. Westley Parr was fouled and made the shot and the free throw giving Sinclair a 43-22 advantage that they took into halftime.

Spencer Hastedt struck first for Tiffin and Sinclair had a 43-24 advantage. Jonathan Rousseau hit a three for the Dragons and cut the Sinclair lead to 45-27. Charles Sweatt-Washington hit a deep jumper to give Sinclair a 53-32 lead followed by a Ramar Hairston three that put Sinclair up 61-40 with less than 10:00 to play. In the end Sinclair proved to be too much for Tiffin and defeated Tiffin with a final score of 81-57.

Leading scorers for Sinclair was Westley Parr (6-7/FR – Benedictine H.S., Cleveland, OH) who put up 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Other top scorers included Charles Sweatt-Washington (6-7/FR – Lafayette H.S., Lexington, KY) who tallied 13 points and snatched 4 rebounds. Marquez Carpenter-Mathis (6-6/FR – Western Hills H.S., Cincinnati, OH) led the team with 8 rebounds and added 11 points. PJ Weaver (6-5/SO – Meadowdale H.S., Dayton, OH) recorded 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Sinclair will be on the road Saturday, January 18 and Wednesday, January 22 where they will travel to Columbus State and Edison Community College. They will return to defend home court on Saturday, January 25 when they take on Lakeland Community College at 4:00 PM following the women’s game at 2:00 PM. All home games are held at Sinclair Community College in the gymnasium in building 8.
