About Sinclair's Mental Health and Addiction Services

Our region's medical facilities are ready to hire well-trained care providers with the right qualifications to provide a high level of care. Sinclair prepares students for immediate employment with our Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant Preliminary and Renewable courses and Mental Health and Addiction Services degrees.

All chemical dependency education has been endorsed to meet the standards of the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.

Addiction Services - Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS)

The Addiction Services degree program prepares entry-level professionals for employment working on an inter-disciplinary team with clinical supervision in chemical dependency treatment settings. Graduates of this program work directly with a diverse group of clients. The program can be taken full-time or part- time. 

Mental Health Services - Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Mental Health Services degree prepares entry-level mental health professionals as members of an inter-disciplinary team under clinical supervision. Duties may include client interviewing, crisis intervention, advocacy, group facilitation and case management. The Mental Health Services degree can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis.

Chemical Dependency Counseling Short-Term Technical Certificate

This series of courses meets the 180 clock hours of chemical dependency specific education required by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board to apply for chemical dependency licensure. It is for individuals who have previously earned or are in the process of earning at least an Associate degree in behavioral science.

Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Preliminary Course

This one course certificate meets the educational requirements for the CDCA: Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant Preliminary. Within this course, the following topics will be discussed: theories and fundamentals of addictive illness and physical/mental effects of psychoactive drugs; dynamics of substance related and addictive disorders on persons, families and society; knowledge of disease concept, stigmas, identification, assessment, trends in treatment and relapse process. Students will also develop insights, challenge biases and identify personal and professional issues and will learn elements of professional/ethical behaviors. 

Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Renewable Course

This one course certificate meets the educational requirements for the CDCA Renewable credential with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Content includes: addiction and treatment knowledge, individual and group counseling, evaluation, service coordination, documentation and professionalism.
