African-American Male Initiative

The African-American Male Initiative (AAMI) at Sinclair Community College is designed to assist and support African-American male students as they make their transition into the mainstream of college life.  Counseling Services helps men in the AAMI attain their educational goals.

AAMI provides a nuturing, supportive environment and mentoring to help students build self-esteem and gain self-confidence.  Students may participate in activities to teach them basic interpersonal skills and necessary employment survival skills.  Students are provided a Student Action Plan to guide their progress.  

Eligibility requirements for AAMI include:

  • Commitment to follow a Student Action Plan
  • Commitment to participate in planned quarterly activities
  • Make satisfactory academic progress each quarter in all classes
  • Attain 2.0 quarterly grade point average or cumulative grade point average upon completion of the first quarter in the program and each quarter there after.
