What if I have a special need or am physically disabled?

If you are a graduate with a physical disability or a special need, please contact James Shuler in Disability Services at (937) 512-2200 or james.shuler@sinclair.edu as early as possible so we can make the necessary accommodations.

Where do my family and guests sit during the ceremony?

Family and guests of graduating students will find ample seating at the University of Dayton Arena.  General audience seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Students are advised to tell family and guests to arrive before 6:00 p.m. for the best seating and parking selection.

Limited seating for guests with a disability is located on the entry level floor of the University of Dayton Arena.  Only one additional person can be seated in this area to accompany the disabled guest.  The first two rows of Section 105 are reserved for the hearing impaired.  Sign language interpreters will be provided.

Do I receive my diploma at the Commencement ceremony?

You will receive only your diploma cover when you walk across the stage during the ceremony.  Fall and Winter graduates should already have received their diplomas while Spring and Summer graduates will receive their diplomas once all degree requirements are met.  Please check your my.sinclair e-mail to verify the correct mailing address.  If there is an error, please contact Jenni Brannan at (937) 512-2857.

What if I am an honor student?

The names of students graduating with honors will be so noted in the Commencement program and will have that distinction indicated at the time their name is announced.  Honor cords, distributed with you cap and gown, will also designate you as an honor student during the ceremony.

How should I dress for the ceremony?

The purpose of the Commencement ceremony is to provide the opportunity for the college to formally recognize and acknowledge the achievement of students who have met institutional requirements for a degree.  While it is designed to be a dignified event, the college recognizes it is also a time of joy and elation for graduates and their families and friends.  In this regard, the college encourages participants to exercise good judgment in selecting their wardrobe for the ceremony.  While the traditional ceremonial gown provides ample coverage, participants are asked to refrain from wearing shorts and/or sandals.  We appreciate your cooperation.

The University of Dayton Arena is NOT equipped with air conditioning.  Although the ceremony will be held in the evening during cooler hours, you may want to dress with appropriate clothing underneath your cap and gown.

How do I purchase a photograph from the ceremony?

A professional photographer will take your photograph once you step off of the stage after you are handed your diploma cover.  Within a week of the ceremony, you will be contacted by Chappell Photography to purchase a professional photograph.

Chappell Photography is offering a new feature to graduates to “pre-register” for photographs.  Once a graduate is pre-registered, the company will send copies of the photograph to pre-designated friends and family as well as inform the graduate when they can review the photograph online and order.  To pre-register, please visit http://www.gradimages.com/Register.cfm.
