Purpose of the Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Program
PSEO is to provide high school students, ninth through twelfth grades, who are intellectually and socially capable of doing college work with an enriched educational option. Students may enroll at Sinclair on a full-time or part-time basis and complete nonsectarian courses for high school and college credit.
PSEO provides expanded opportunities for appropriately qualified high school students to experience course work at the college or university level. Any high school student who enrolls in any Sinclair courses is expected and required to perform at the same level as Sinclair’s regular students.
Sinclair’s PSEO Application Requirements
The completed PSEO application must include information from the high school counselor.
• Verification of a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average: (based on a 4.0 scale)
• Number of periods for scheduling per day at the high school, excluding lunch.
• Number of Carnegie units in which the student will be enrolled at high school during the academic year.
• Classes that a student is not eligible to take, or restricted from taking, at Sinclair.
• Non-eligible courses are as required by law, stated in Substitute House Bill 282: “A student may NOT enroll in any specific college course through the program if the student has taken high school courses in the same subject as the college course and has failed to attain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent, in such completed high school course.” School districts may also restrict courses a student can take.
• Signatures of the applicant, the parent or guardian and high school counselor.
Choice of Two Options for PSEO: Option A or Option B (see below)
Option A allows the public, community or non-public high school student to choose, upon enrollment, college credit or both high school and college credit. In this case, the cost of the program is funded entirely by the student’s family.
Option B allows the student to receive both high school and college credit. For public high school and community school student, there is no transfer of tuition between student and college. The high school’s state foundation will pay the college directly. Public, community or non-public high school students electing this option will not be required to pay for tuition, books, materials or fees. If the student is enrolled in a non-public high school, the cost is subsidized by funds set aside by the Ohio General Assembly in each biennium and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
If the student enrolls under Option B, reimbursement to the college by the school district is contingent on the student’s completing each course for which credit toward fulfilling the high school graduation requirements of the student’s school district or non-public school is requested. Failure to complete the course, whether through a formal class withdrawal process, incomplete course work, a failing grade or non-attendance, will result in any or all of the financial obligations for that course defaulting to the student or student’s parent or legal guardian as determined by the school district.
PSEO Class Policy
Sinclair Community College reserves the right to review the final selection of college classes approved by the high school and to limit participation in any class based on such circumstances as extraordinary lab or technical supply fees, age, safety issues, excessive course load, academic probation, etc.
Some classes in Art (ART), Automotive Technology (AUT), Aviation Technology (AVT) and Hospitality Management (HMT), Mathematics (MAT) and ALL Physical Education (PED) physical activity (non-class room) classes and Academic Foundations (ACA), formerly known as Developmental/DEV, are excluded from the program. A complete list of all classes excluded from PSEO funding is available through the high school counselor.
