FINANCIAL CERTIFICATION BY FOREIGN STUDENT APPLICANT

You are required to certify that you have available for your expenses a minimum sum of $15,000 for each year at Sinclair Community College, exclusive of travel expenses. (Approximately $5,180 for tuition, fees, and books, and $9,820 for room, board, clothing, health insurance, and transportation.) The average foreign student is enrolled at Sinclair for 8 quarters (2 and 2/3 academic years) to complete an associate degree. Sponsors who will be providing room and board by allowing the student to live with them must still include the $9,820 room and board amount in the total amount sponsored. Travel expenses to and from the U.S. are not included in this annual calculation.

You must indicate how you will meet your expenses for each subsequent year of study if you are enrolling in a program that requires more than one year. Students who plan to enroll for summer term will need to document an additional $1,256 for tuition and books.

In determining your sources of support, you need to know that you will not be authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to work off campus at any time during the first year of study. After the first year, INS will authorize off campus employment only under extraordinary circumstances or for practical training. Therefore, you cannot count student employment in the U.S. as a source of support while at Sinclair Community College. Under no circumstances are foreign students permitted to work full time during the academic year.

Foreign students are not eligible for federal and state financial aid resources at Sinclair Community College. These resources are the primary forms of aid to U.S. undergraduate students to attend college. While Sinclair Community College does offer some school scholarship money, this amount is extremely limited and does not cover the amount of international student tuition at Sinclair. You cannot count Sinclair aid as a source of your support.

If you are married and your spouse and/or children will be accompanying you to the U.S., you must certify that you will have an additional $5,000 for your spouse and an additional $3,000 for each child per academic year. NOTE: Spouses and children of F1 student visa holders are never permitted to work under any circumstance.

Please note: The form I-20 (for the issuance of the F-1 visa) will not be issued to you until you have been admitted to Sinclair Community College and have completed this form to our satisfaction and returned it to the Office of Registration & Student Records with all supporting documentation.

If you are enrolling in an associate degree program, you are required to show that you have the financial means to support yourself during a three year period. This three year period is the average length of time that all students at Sinclair take to complete the associate degree program. you must provide documentation of all sponsor's ability to provide financial assistance to you. This form will be returned to you if all information requested is not provided in full.

Examples of supporting documentation you may provide are:

yours and/or your sponsor's three most recent months of savings account statements
US-based sponsors may provide the most recent federal form 1040 and W2 forms along with the sponsor's most recent pay stub showing year-to-date earnings to verify continuing employment
all sponsors outside the US must verify current employment. A letter of documentation from each employer verifying the current employment and the preceding year's income must be provided for each sponsor.
