Assistive Technology

The Office of Accessibility and Counseling Services has many resources available to students who receive services through the office.

Request Services

Request services by contacting your counselor the first week of the semester. You must request services for each semester. *Academic accommodations such as audio textbooks and computer adaptations may take significant lead time to be ready in time for effective use. To expedite the request for Adaptive Furniture please read next sentence.

Read & Write (For all students)

What is it?
  • Hear web pages and documents read aloud to improve reading comprehension, with choice of natural voices
  • Understand unfamiliar words with text and picture dictionaries
  • Develop writing skills with word prediction
  • Support independent student research with valuable study skills tools
  • Improves confidence and understanding levels for struggling readers
  • Help students and employees with dyslexia and other literacy challenges
  • Assist English Language Learners and individuals with English as a Second Language

What is it?
  • A high-tech way for students to take notes
  • Records lectures while you take notes
  • Links the audio recording to the printed notes

Dragon Naturally Speaking (Speech Input Software)

What is it?
  • Voice recognition software program
  • Provides access to text-based programs with voice, not hands
  • For students who have difficulty writing or using the computer keyboard
  • For students who have difficulty writing their thoughts down on paper

What is it?
  • Screen reading software program
  • Reads aloud what is displayed on computer screen
  • For students who are blind or visually impaired
