- The Financial Aid Process:
- Apply: Your 2011-2012 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) has been received.
- Check: Check your email at my.sinclair.edu for updates regarding your financial aid package. Information on how to access your Sinclair email account is available in the Guide to Your Sinclair Email and Web Advisor at this link.
- Verify: Submit all documents required to determine financial aid eligibility. These documents will be requested via email.
- Accept: Review financial aid awards on Web Advisor. All Federal awards and the Access Grant and Book Scholarship must be accepted before the funds will be available to pay for tuition and/or books. Information on how to accept these awards on Web Advisor is available at this link.
- Review of Critical Financial Aid Dates:
- Summer Quarter: Information regarding financial aid for summer quarter is available at this link.
- Fee Bill: Federal financial aid will not be applied to your student account until ten days before the start of the term. More information is available under “How to Apply for Financial Aid” at this link.
- Book Charges: The dates to use your financial aid to purchase books in the Sinclair Bookstore are available at this link.
- Add/Drop Policy: A student’s financial aid is determined by their enrollment status on the census date which is the 8th day of the term with the exception of short-term classes. The policy is available at this link.
3. Maintaining Your Financial Aid:
- Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy: The Department of Education requires that the Financial Aid & Scholarships office monitor a student’s academic progress while working toward a degree or certificate program. Note: Due to changes in federal regulations, a new SAP policy is in effect beginning summer quarter, 2011. The complete policy and the appeal process are available at this link.
- Transfer Credits: Students must have their transfer credits evaluated by an Academic Advisor and a Transfer/SCC Graduate Financial Aid Appeal form must be completed before their eligibility for federal financial aid can be determined. The policy is available at this link.
- Graduates from a Degree or Certificate Program: Students, who have already graduated from a program at Sinclair, must have their Academic Advisor complete a Transfer/SCC Graduate Financial Aid Appeal form before their eligibility for federal financial aid can be determined. - Retaking Courses: Information on retaking classes is available under the Repeated Coursework Policy at this link.
4. Federal Student Loans:
a. If you decide to borrow a student loan while attending
Sinclair Community College, you must first accept the loan
on Web Advisor. The promissory note (legal binding contract
for the loan) can be completed online. We will send you an
email after loans are accepted on Web Advisor and provide a
direct link to the Electronic Promissory Note.
b. If you are a new student loan borrower at Sinclair Community
College, you must complete online entrance counseling. We
will send you an email after loans are accepted on Web
Advisor and provide a direct link for online Student Loan
Entrance Counseling.
c. Students will be notified if they may be eligible for additional
loans.
d. If eligible, students will need to receive additional loan
counseling.
