Student Employment

Career Services administers the online and offline posting of job opportunities Sinclair students and graduates. On campus student employment is restricted to students attending during the period of employment. These positions are separate from the Sinclair part/full time permanent positions that can be viewed at the Sinclair HR website (http://jobs.sinclair.edu). Off campus student employment opportunities, posted by private employers, are available to all interested jobseekers, regardless of student status unless otherwise noted in job description.

On-Campus Student Employment exists to:

  • Assist the college in tasks which do not require fulltime employees.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to partially support themselves while attending college and working toward a degree.
  • Provide employment experience for students.

  Types of On-Campus Student Employment

  • Regular Student Employment - is available to any eligible student. The regular student employee is able to work up to 20 hours per week while attending classes. If a department requires additional temporary assistance, the approval of the Senior Vice President is required in advance. A student may never work more than 35 hours per week. There are no exceptions to the 35 hour rule.

In order to be eligible for an on-campus position, an individual must be a registered student at Sinclair Community College carrying a minimum of 6 credit hours (DEV noncredit coursework applicable). Refer to the Position Description for specific departmental requirements such as GPA, declared major, scheduling needs.
  •
  • Work Study Only Student Employment - is awarded as a part of the Financial Aid package. To qualify to apply for Work Study Only positions, a student must meet the minimum requirements of any Student Employment candidate as well as have a Work Study award as part of their Pell Grant award. To determine whether you have a Work Study award, visit the Financial Aid office and ask the FA specialist at the front counter to check your financial aid record for Work Study status and amount.

Currently Work Study employment is available for only On-Campus jobs. Those positions are posted in the Career Services Office (Room 10315) or online at  Student Employment. The Position Description for each Student Employment position will indicate whether the position is for Work Study qualified students only or if it is available for any student regardless of financial aid. If the position is "Work Study Only", then only work study qualified students can apply. Once the student is employed in a FWS position, the award is used to pay the student's salary, until the award is exhausted.

Academic Requirements for Work Study employment:
Minimum 6 credit hours per quarter ... (DEV noncredit coursework applicable)
