Taking a Proficiency Exam

Before applying for permission to take a proficiency exam, check to make sure a proficiency exam is availble for the course selected. If available, complete both the Proficiency Exams Policies Form and Proficiency Examination Permission Form, available upon request from plaprograms@sinclair.edu.  After receiving and completing the forms, save them as Word documents and send as attachments to plaprograms@sinclair.edu.  This information will be forwarded to the appropriate Department Chairperson for consideration of your request.

If your request is approved, you will be notified via your Sinclair e-mail (my.sinclair.edu) regarding payment information.  You must pay the processing and evaluation fee in person at the Bursar's Office before your exam can be scheduled.  NOTE: The processing and evaluation fee is non-refundable.

Once payment has been verified, you will receive further instructions via your Sinclair e-mail account (my.sinclair.edu) regarding arrangements for scheduling your exam. After you have taken your proficiency exam, the evaluator will submit your grade to Registration and Student Records.

Grades of A, B or C should be posted to your academic record within two (2) weeks from the time your grade is reported. This grade will be calculated in your grade point average. Check the unofficial transcript option in WebAdvisor to view your posted grade.

Grades of D or F will not be posted to your academic record and therefore not calculated in your grade point average. If you earn either of these grades, you will be notified by U.S. mail or via your Sinclair e-mail (my.sinclair.edu). You are not permitted to re-apply for the same test.
