A third major patron of art in the United States in the 30th century has been wealthy individuals. Mellon donated many of the master pieces in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Historian donated his huge sculpture collection to found the Hirshorn Museum in Washington DC, and Frick's homes house significant art collections in New York City and Pittsburgh. Another major art collector was J.P. Getty, whose collection of art is housed in the J.P. Getty Museum in Malibu, California.
