What is the program about?

This certificate will help prepare students and working professionals to perform effectively in the Information Assurance area of Information Technology. The courses required for this certificate have been reviewed and validated by the NSA. Students completing the courses outlined here will receive the ISSC Certificate jointly issued by Sinclair Community College and the NSA.. Because the specified content in these courses has been approved, course credit earned by articulated or proficiency cannot be accepted.

Program Outcomes

• Apply effective and flexible critical thinking, general business, and problem-solving skills to typical business or technical problems associated with the area of concentration.
• Use effective oral and written communication skills and teamwork skills in the delivery of customer service, project planning, and project completion in the information technology business environment.
• Research, select, use, and troubleshoot hardware and network components appropriate to the area of concentration.

Career Opportunities

With the increased awareness of the need for computer and network security in government, industry, and education, there are greatly increased opportunities for students prepared to work in Information Assurance. Students and working professionals completing this certificate will have significantly enhanced opportunities to pursue jobs in the Information Assurance arena within the Federal government, Department of Defense, and private industry.

Credentials

Two courses in this certificate (CIS 1130 and CIS 2640) help prepare students for the CompTIA Net+ and Security+ certifications. CIS 2510 also helps students prepare for a Microsoft certification.
