What is the program about?
The Crime Mapping Short-Term Certificate will give students knowledge of the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the area of criminal justice and homeland security. Students will be able to add this credential to their portfolio as they pursue additional educational opportunities or elect to work in the field of criminal justice.
- Describe the use of GIS applications within criminal justice science.
- Explain the issues pertinent to national and local security and develop awareness of tools to help identify potential risks.
- Utilize databases to conduct search procedures within the crime mapping application areas.
Career opportunities include but are not limited to private security agencies, retail and banking security agencies, federal agencies, state emergency management agencies, law enforcement agencies and other first responder agencies.
