Upward Bound is a federally funded, pre-college program that helps provide motivation and academic skills to students to complete their high school education successfully, enroll in, and graduate from college. Students participate in academic courses receive tutoring, college admissions, academic and personal and career counseling. All program services are designed to assist students with academic, social and cultural skills necessary to complete a course of study at a post-secondary institution.
Grades: 9-12; *Students at Belmont HS, Dunbar HS, and Meadowdale HS only*
Term: Year-round: Fall, winter, spring, and summer sessions with mandatory Saturday morning classes and after-school tutoring
Length of Session: During academic year – September to May; Summer Program – June and July, six (6) to eight (8) weeks
Class Size: 79 participants; plus the supplemental grant recruits an additional 50 males
Eligibility Criteria: First-generation college (neither parent has earned a four-year degree) and/or low-income
