Overview:
Sinclair Community College has reviewed previous enrollment data concerning student goal attainment and found that a high number of students do not persist from one term to the next or from one year to the next, and therefore do not succeed in their stated goal attainment. Currently, Sinclair latest 3-year graduation rate is about 8%, and this low rate creates the need to examine what factors may be affecting the lack of degree or certificate attainment.
Purpose and Scope:
The continuing purpose of the College wide Retention Committee is to engage the institution in an exploration of all factors that might affect students’ goal attainment (hence, success) at Sinclair Community College. But the goal of this new initiative is not just an exploration of those reasons affecting a student’s goal attainment, but then to devise an action plan to remediate and address those factors deemed to hinder students’ success. This is best accomplished by clearly identifying those issues, establishing a plan of action to address those issues, and then putting into place key specific KPI’s to judge the effectiveness of those actions taken to increase student success. In effect, the goal of this project is to develop and orchestrate a strategic global plan to minimize or eliminate barriers to student success, vitalize processes and procedures so that they work toward student educational success, and enable students to progress toward goal attainment in a reasonable and well-planned manner.
