  • Cultural Stereotyping: What Are They really Like? R. A. Morales, Assistant Professor, Communication Department, SCC. We will explore the stereotyping of different cultures and the problems associated with this through the use of participatory activities.

  • Harvesting Character  Carol Baugh and Kathy Hayes, Sinclair Faculty  Learn through the oral histories of Appalachian migrants how character was developed and how these migrants harvested that character after relocating to the cities in search of jobs. 


  • A Conversation About Poverty  Rana Peake, Appalachian Outreach Coordinator, Sinclair Community College. Sinclair's Center for Teaching & Learning and Appalachian Outreach facilitated open and honest dialog about an issue that impacts our community, and our college.  Participate in a round-table discussion to explore this critical issue. 


  • KinKillinKin   James Pate , Artist, Educator A deeper look into a long-term art project and how passion is used to fuel an artists’ vision from concept to exhibition. 


  • Developing Character in Our Characters Harold & Jonatha Wright, Miami Valley Storytellers Discuss how storytelling techniques in character development can be applied to writing, performance art and other creative disciplines. 

  • Chaos to Order: Issa Randal, artist.   Art reflects the cultural norms and standards of a society and throughout the modern history of art artists have challenged these norms, from dada to street art, these movements have strived to more accurately reflect the world in which there living in and challenge the status quo.

  • Gandhi:  Developing Character through Soul Force Bill Meers and Joe Kunkel, Volunteers, Dayton International Peace Museum For Gandhi, personal character was the key to success in his campaigns for justice and human rights.  The deep commitment to nonviolence he demanded in others began with him.   For Gandhi, Be the change that you wish to see in the world” was not a slogan, but a definition of who he became— and calls us to become.
