Workshop for Teachers and Education Majors:
"Teaching with Defiance" Tuesday, May 11, 4:30-8:30 PM, Building 12, Room 282
(click here for more information and an online registration form)
During World War II, approximately 20,000-30,000 Jews, many of whom were teenagers, escaped the Nazis to form or join organized resistance groups. These Jews are known as the Jewish partisans, and they joined hundreds of thousands of non-Jewish partisans fighting against the enemy throughout much of Europe.
Due to severe anti-Semitism, in some partisan units Jews had to hide their identity even though they shared a common enemy. Other partisan units were purely Jewish. This was the case with the Bielski's, which were composed not merely of fighters, but of women, children, and the elderly. The group totaled 1,200 by the end of the war and today over 10,000 people are alive because of them.
Join us on Tuesday May 11th as Mitch Braff, Executive Director of the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation, presents a four-hour workshop on teaching with the film Defiance. The workshop will be held in Building 12, the Ponitz Center, at Sinclair Community College beginning at 4:30pm and concluding at 8:30pm.
The workshop is free and open to teachers and to education majors. Snacks provided during breaks.
Contact committee chair Sean Frost (sean.frost@sinclair.edu) if you have any questions.
